Jan 31 - Feb 2 **4th Annual Coastal Virginia Open. Friday Jan 31 - Sunday Feb 2 in Virginia Beach, VA, at the Wyndham Oceanfront, 5700 Atlantic Ave in VA Beach. Orgainzed by teh Hampton Roads Chess Association. $$3,500 guaranteed Prize Fund. Chess rate for Hotel rooms is $89 plus taxes & resort fees (about $112 total), rate is available until Jan 17th. This is a 5-round tournament, US Chess rated. Play is in 3 sections in the main tournament--Open, Under 1600, and Under 1200. Rating restrictions necessary to play in the Open and Under 1600 Sections. Conditions offered to US Chess titled National Masters. One-day Scholastic events on both Saturday and Sunday. Feb 22 **2025 Mickey Owens Memorial Tournament. Mickey was a major force in Virginia Chess, especially with the Commonwealth's youths. In honor of Mickey, the Roanoke City Public Schools Chess affiliate is hosting a 4 or 5 round tournament in his memory on Saturday, Feb 22, 2025, at Fallon Park Elementary School, 502 19th St. East in Roanoke. **2025 Maryland State Girls Championship. Organized by Magnus Chess Academy and being played at Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, 6125 Montrose Rd, Rockville, MD. The official Maryland State Girls Championship tournament! This is a US Chess rated Swiss style tournament. There is a K-12 Champ (750+) section and a K-12 U-800 section. Participants play only against opponents in their own section. Rounds start at 9:00am, 10:45am, 12:30pm, and 2:15pm, with an awards ceremony starting at approximately 3:45pm. The winner of the Championship section is the official MD Girls Champion, and will be invited to the Haring Tournament of Champions!
