COVID-19 Protocols

• All participants and attendees MUST wear face masks, no exceptions. The Hotel requires masks in all public places.

• NO SPECTATORS are allowed during games, including Players whose games are finished for the round.

• Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer will be at every board. Players will wipe their clocks and pieces after each game. We are providing sets, so you don't have to worry about wiping your own pieces.

Chess Rate $79 per night, plus tax.  Reserve your room by Friday Oct 22nd to get the Chess Rate.

If you want to Register for Blitz Only, come to the Tournament and sign-up there.

Sections 

Round TImes

&  Time Control

Players enter one of two Sections: Open or Under 1800.
The Open Section is for the strongest players, it is not for beginners.

Players will be SECTIONED and PAIRED using the higher of their US Chess over-the-board and on-line Regular Ratings in the US Chess October 2021 Rating Supplement.

All Pairings will use the Swiss System -- this is NOT an elimination event.

Start times for the Rounds are:

* BLITZ on Friday (Oct 29th): 7PM, 4 Double-Rounds in 2 Sections--Open & U1600,
with time control of Game-5, no delay or increment.

Main Event
       * Saturday:  Round 1 @ 10AM      Rd 2 @ 2PM      Rd 3 @ 7PM
       * Sunday:    Round 4 @ 10AM      Rd 5 (Final round) @ 3PM

Time Control for Main Event:
       * Round 1 at Game 75 with 10-second increment
       * Rounds 2-5 at Game 90 with 10-second increment

Byes & Re-Entry for Rd. 2

One half-point bye is available--it is optional. Byes can be requested as part of your online or onsite entry, but must be locked-in 30 minutes before the start of Round 2 (by 1:30 PM Saturday). The only Bye changes allowed after the 1:30 cut-off time are to change your half-point bye to a zero-point bye. Zero-point Byes in Round 5 are the same as withdrawing from the tournament.

Had a bad Round 1?  You can re-enter the tournament for $30 after Round 1 and receive a 1/2 point Bye for that round, even if you lost your actual Rd. 1 game!!  If you want to re-enter the tournament after Round 1, just talk to the Tournament Director so he can explain how the process works.

Membership Requirements

Current US Chess Federation membership is required.

VCF Membership is required for all Virginia residents. $15 adult. $8 for players age 17 and under.  Out-of-state Players not required to be VCF members.  Click here to check your VCF Membership status.
