February / March Virginia Open Northern VA 3-day Open Tournament.  A VCF Cup event.
early-mid March VA Scholastic & Collegiate Chess Championships Varies (rotated around the state each year) Friday night Blitz & Bughouse Tournaments, followed by a Saturday-Sunday Main Event. Open only to VA residents.
Varies - June to Sept Virginia Senior Championships Northern VA Age 50 and above, Open tournament
late June or mid-July Charlottesville Open Charlottesville, VA 2-day Open Tournament.  A VCF Cup event.
September (Labor Day Weekend) Annual Virginia Closed Chess Championships Richmond area, usually in Glen Allen, VA 3-day Tournament, VA residents only.  Blitz tournament on the Friday night before the main tournament is open to any player.
mid-to-late October (New) Fredericksburg Open Fredericksburg, VA 2-day Open Tournament.  A VCF Cup event.  (Replaces the Emporia Open)
early-to-mid November David Zofchak Memorial Open Tidewater Area 2-day Open Tournament to honor the memory of David Zofchak, a tournament organizer and director from VA Beach who passed in the mid-1980s.  A VCF Cup event.
early-to-mid November Northern Virginia Open Northern VA 2-day Open Tournament.  A VCF Cup event.
