  • This is the HOME PAGE for the 2022-23 Virginia Scholastic & College Chess Championships. The tournament consists of three events:

    • The Blitz Tournament: Held Friday evening, with Round 1 at 6:30pm.

    • The "Main Event": Held Saturday and Sunday, with Round 1 at 9am on Saturday.

    • A Parents & Friends (P&F) Tournament: Saturday and Sunday, with Round 1 at 12:45pm on Saturday.

  • To reserve your Hotel Room at the tournament venue, click here. The hotel "Chess Rate" is $135 plus taxes through FRIDAY March 3rd.

  • PARKING: Parking is available at the hotel, but it is not free. Hotel guests pay $13/day, it's higher if you are not a guest of the hotel.

  • Click this button ... Register NOW!! ... to Register for the Main Tournament and/or the Blitz Tournament.

  • Click this button ... Register for P&F ... to register for the Parents & Friends tournament.

  • NOTE:  The Main Tournament has 5 Rounds, Blitz will have 4 or 5 rounds, depending on the number of players.  Parents & Friends also is 4 rounds.

  • There are 9 Sections to choose from.

    • K-3 Championship & K-3 Under 600.  The K-3 Under 600 Section is for players rated 599 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-5 Championship & K-5 Under 1000.  K-5 Under 1000 is for players rated 999 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-8 Championship & K-8 Under 1200.  K-8 Under 1200 is for players rated 1199 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-12 Championship & K-12 Under 1400.  K-12 Under 1400 is for players rated 1399 and below, including Unrated players.

    • College. Open only to players enrolled in college, not open to HS students attending college.

  • Unrated Players are allowed to play in the Championship or Under sections within their grade group. ALSO, the Championship sections are open to players of all ratings. In other words a school may form a team in a Championship Section with players who otherwise may be eligible to play in one of the "Under" sections. For example, an 11th Grade player rated 1350 does NOT have to play in the K12 Under 1400 Section. That player may play with his/her schoolmates in the Championship Section.

  • AM I ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNAMENT?  See the Frequently Asked Questions ... Click Here.

  • WE WILL USE THE MARCH 2023 US Chess Rating Supplement. The March Rating Supplement will be on line with US Chess starting on/about Thursday or Friday, February 16th/17th. If you are not sure how to look-up a player's rating, contact us here.
