The "Main Event" is
Saturday and Sunday, March 11th and 12th -- see below -- but the fun
starts on Friday evening with our optional Blitz and Bughouse
tournaments.

There are FOUR TOURNAMENTS throughout
the weekend ... it's a great weekend full of Chess for the
scholastic and college players, AND Parents/Friends.
-
Friday Night -- 6PM until 9PM:
Blitz & Bughouse Championships!! These are optional
side events that have no impact on who are the K3, K5, K8 and
K12 State Champions in
the main tournament.

Saturday & Sunday: The
6-Round State Scholastic & College Championships Main Event!!
College only plays 4 rounds, all on Saturday.

Also on Saturday and Sunday: A
side-tournament for Parents & Friends!

3 PM at the Hotel

open until 9PM, so teams and players who need to
check in can do so.

Regardless of when you Register, the Advance/Early Entry Fee for all events ends at
midnight on
Monday, March 6th. In other words,
beginning Tuesday March 7th,
all Entry Fees increase by $10 to $15, depending on the event you
enter. So, REGISTER AND PAY before March 7th to avoid the
extra cost!!

The
tournament has
four separate events
... you must register separately for each tournament.

Friday Night, March 10th: BLITZ
& Bughouse Tournaments (you can
only play in one of these two events, they occur at the same time)

Blitz:
4 or 5 Rounds,
Three Sections (K-5, K-12 and College). Round 1 at 6:00 PM.

Bughouse:
4 or 5 Rounds, TWO Sections (K-5 and K-12 only, no College
Bughouse). Round 1 at 6:00 PM
-
The Early Entry Fee with your
Registration is $20 per person
for Blitz or Bughouse. The Early
Payment Period ends at midnight on Monday, March 6th. Beginning
March 7th, the Entry Fee increases to $30.

The Entry Fee is $30 if you Register
for either event after March 6th, or if you wait to Register at the
tournament site. REGISTER AND PAY BEFORE MARCH 7th to avoid
the increased entry fee.

On-site Registration
opens at 3 PM and ends at 5:15 PM!!
Entries received after 5:15 will be paired for Round 2.
Register early and avoid standing in line at the last minute!!

All players
MUST BRING A CHESS CLOCK to play
Blitz or Bughouse.

We will be
using the US Chess Federation's Scholastic Rules for Blitz and
Bughouse, which were updated in December 2015.

Scholastic & College Chess Championships.

6 Rounds
... with 4
games on Saturday and 2 games are on Sunday. College plays
only 4 rounds, all on Saturday.

What happens if two or
more players tie with a perfect 6.0 score?
In the K8 and K12 Sections, if two or more players tie for 1st
Place with a perfect 6.0 score (e.g. they win all of their
games), there will be a "Blitz Armageddon Playoff" at the conclusion of
the tournament to decide who wins the 1st Place Trophy and who
becomes the State's candidate to prestigious National-level
tournaments in late July.

Players will be
grouped into 5 Sections based on their grade in school (K-3, K-5, K-8, K-12,
and College). Click here

The Early Entry Fee for the main
tournament is $50, and you
can pay using PayPal when you Register online.
The Early Payment period ends on March 6th at midnight.

The Entry Fee increases to $65 beginning
Tuesday, March 7th.

Note:
$3.00 from every player's entry
supports sending Virginia's
representatives to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions, the
National Girls Invitational Tournament, and the
Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions ...
all in late July and early August 2017 during the U.S. Open.
This year those events are being held in NORFOLK, VA.

Parents & Friends (P&F) Tournament

4 Rounds:
3
games on Saturday, 1 on Sunday morning. Games start 30 minutes
after the kids start playing in the Main Tournament.

The P&F Tournament is for adults only (parents, coaches, family friends and other
adult players), no scholastic
or college players who would otherwise be eligible to compete in
the Scholastic or College sections.
4 Rounds of USCF-rated games, with Rounds 1-3 on Sat. at G/45 time
control, and Round 4 on Sun. at G/60.

USCF
Membership is required to play.

Entry Fee
is $25 in advance, $35 after March 6th
and on site.
You
can pay using PayPal when you Register online.
The
early payment period
ends at midnight on Monday, March
6th. After March 6th,
the Entry Fee increases to $35 ... even if you
register online.

Prizes:
All prizes will be Gift
Certificates to the Book Store. You will not
be allowed to
exchange your Gift Certificate for cash.
